Even the most careful of us have to clean the keyboard occasionally. It doesn’t matter if you wash your hands and maintain a dust-free ambiance; our hands naturally produce oil, and there are always particles in the air. Every once in a while, it’s nice to clean the keyboard.
For maintenance cleaning, it’s often enough to use a brush to remove the dust between the keycaps and rinse the palm pads with some alcohol or other cleaning product.
For a more exhaustive cleaning, here are the steps we recommend following:
- Disconnect the keyboard and the halves, and ensure no energy is running.
- Remove the keycaps and wash them. To do so, use window cleaner, alcohol, or water with soap. Use a cloth or paper towel to remove the liquid, and let them dry.
- Take out the palm pads, wash them with the same product, and let them dry.
- Remove the dust at the top panel and take out the switches.
- Carefully clean the top panel with a cleaning product. We recommend putting the product on a cloth and then on the panel. Avoid pouring the cleaning agent directly to avoid contact with the electronics. Dry the panel with a paper towel afterward.
- Open the keyboard and dust off the interior with a soft brush or dry air.
- Mount the keyboard, install the switches, and, if they are dry, install the palm pads and keycaps.
- Enjoy.
Do this as part of your seasonal cleaning. If you have questions about a specific product or a problematic stain, contact us via social media or email. We’ll provide the information and run some tests if needed.
