Even the most careful of us have to clean the keyboard occasionally. It doesn’t matter if you wash your hands and maintain a dust-free ambiance; our hands naturally produce oil, and there are always particles in the air. Every once in a while, it’s nice to clean the keyboard.
For maintenance cleaning, it’s often enough to use a brush to remove the dust between the keycaps and rinse the palm pads with some alcohol or other cleaning product.
For a more exhaustive cleaning, here are the steps we recommend the following video and instructions:
1. Disconnect the keyboard and the halves
Ensure no energy is running. If you have a wireless keyboard, turn each side off.
2. Remove the keycaps and wash them
To do so, use window cleaner, alcohol, or water with soap. Use a cloth or paper towel to remove the liquid, and let them dry.
3. Take out the palm pads
Wash them with the same product and let them dry.
4. Take out the switches and clean the top panel
Carefully clean the top panel with a cleaning product. We recommend putting the product on a cloth and then on the panel. Avoid pouring the cleaning agent directly to avoid contact with the electronics. Dry the panel with a paper towel afterward.
5. Open the keyboard
Dust off the interior with a soft brush or dry air.
6. Put the keyboard back together
Mount the keyboard, install the switches, and, if they are dry, install the palm pads and keycaps.
7. Enjoy
